‘Sebat Nikun’..it is a rallying call of the century, indeed we have resigned to fate accepting the abnormal as a norm and the rulers as executors of our fate and irreplaceable, as body snatchers they stole our soul and our human element rendering us a zombie population. This gut wrenching cry is decades overdue, it should have resonated in the ravines of mount Arrag and the rocky hills of Kur and Kerkebet….Lamedusa is just a recent remake of that dark history we suppress deep in our conscience. This nation need to find itself in order to move forward. Right now somebody alien owns it.
W.H. you condensed it eloquently, one thing I suggest we need to avoid calling the vector– ‘traitor’ ‘kahadi’, we installed this regime with our own hand without the consent of the people, now we are having a hard time uninstalling it, worse than Derg because this enemy knows us intimately unlike those outside occupiers— the enemy is us!! since we discovered the ever elusive enemy lets start working on it, please include the people this time around–all the people, not an exclusive organization which morphed into Frankenstein.
Dear Brother k. Tewolde
I can’t agree more. An old Egyptian adage says it all: “The people are makers of their own Pharaohs”.
No doubt, dictators are created by people.
They personify the subculture of a people.
The stuff of which Iseyas is make is within us.
“Ognuno vive in funzione della propria cultura”, which roughly translated means “everyone/people live(s) according to their own culture”. Oppressive cultures produce oppressive rulers.
Iseyas reached where he is now with full support of all the people who at a later stage ended up being his victims.
From day one he was neither a nationalist nor a hero, he was probably and Ethiopian spy.
He was elevated to the level of God, because of his intolerance and extreme ruthlessness.
Yes, we created Iseyas’ ego, and we will not be able to bring him down unless we change ourselves first. It’s not because of him, it’s because of us, our collective mindlessness.
The road to freedom starts with “mia culpa, mia grandissima culpa”. Only when we admit being guilty, then, only then we will come to our senses and realize that actually the tools we used to create a God are still in our hands, and dismantle the diabolic totem won’t take time.
Thank Dr. K.Tewede
‘..the tools we used to create a God are still in our hands..’, W.H. reminds us with simplified but powerful brotherly advice, we have been looking elsewhere and groping in the dark for far too long, like I said before, just peer in the mirror the answers are all there looking back at us, we can chop him to size with the same tools, the question is, are we willing and ready to do so. Gratzie mille W.H.
