They presented the document they worked hard on as a gift knowingly to the very person who built the repressive intolerant enterprise and waited nervously cracking their knuckles for his authoritarian approval, he glared at them and stamped it rejected and they left town in a hurry dejected never to set their foot there again, by default they didn’t know they have crowned him that he is the constitution. Dear K.Tewolde,
You, at the age of fourteen (yes, 14 years old) offered your precious LIFE, and others like you, for the liberation of Eritrea. In tandem, there was HIDDEN ENEMY [with followers too] to destroy Eritrea from its ‘ROOTS’ >>> NEVER to recover as a nation. And he is succeeding: Eritreans have abandoned their beloved Eritrea and scattered around the Globe — always remembering DEAR ERITREA, unmindful of the passage of TIME and their progressing ages. I include myself in that Group of wishful thinkers.
And yet, here I am, writing about Eritrea, refusing to believe that the KEY to Eritrea’s survival is in the hands of an ENEMY with extraordinary manoeuvrings and treachery to destroy Eritrea from the surface of the EARTH. The ENEMY is succeeding!!!! IT IS TRULY A CLASSICAL SAD TRAGEDY >>>especially considering the well known unparalleled valour of Eritrean people. WHAT HAPPENED??? It is a mysterious question that we Eritreans will always ponder about, up to our graves. My closing wish — needless to say — is to be dead-wrong in my narration. But then, our insightful proverb comes to mind: ‘If you do not die; you are healthy’ THE END
It was quite apparent from onset that the Constitution was flawed because the commission was appointed by a power hungry sitting dictator as opposed by independent body. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying the Constitution was not useful.
The preamble states the Constitution is meant to ensure the establishment of a democratically elected government by holding fair elections. The core values of the Constitution was democratic government, effective government with check and balances, justice, liberty, and equality.
It was not surprising to see the Constitution being customized(compromised)to the needs and political aspirations of the dictator. Mr W/Yesus & Dr Hassan need to be commended for putting the flaws of the Constitution under the microscope.

Commentary on my confusion
If I may come in again, I wish to express my puzzlement as to why we are burning time, at this time, while the cardinal urgent issue is about ONE and ONLY ONE obstacle to the LIBERATION of ERITREA.
What would be the point of discussion about CONSTITUTION of a country that is in PRISON by a single person?!?!. We should be talking about how to GET RID of the self-appointed absolute dictator who is “the constitution >> the ruler >> the lawyer >> the master >> and the god” over the ENSLAVED Eritreans. Why are we skirting around the cardinal issue? I am completely puzzled. Obviously, there is something way, way, way above my head. In that case, I am sorry for my intrusion.
Finally there are some out there who share my point – someone did bring this contentious item back then. I am sure Dr Bereket is possibly kicking himself here but this is not to go after Dr Bereket. This is only to point the facts. Every time I bring this “draft paper” to few friends they tend to not understand my points. In fact many do not even know it. never read it. This draft was driven by very few and mostly by one person. Many nations are in agony for they either rush to implement their constitution or never put the process right from the get go.
I share the same views with the rest who have dropped a comment here. The goal and focus right now though to fight and drive the change needed back in Eritrea.
I also blame every Eritrean who are either for or against the draft. Even the person who is reading and explaining this very point here. Where was this person then? Every Eritrean used to Jump in to any wagon the current Eritrean government would say or do…..like what we see these days as “MAGA or the other side” supporters. Blindly worshiping rather than reading and questioning and making a process work for all. After the fact though everyone of us are voicing now and pointing a finger. hindsight life is just beautiful even for those of us who could not “see”. Well as always if offended apologies in advance.
This is not about offending anybody or an issue of for or against the document in discussion, instead it is a rare conversation which has been shunned for a long time because it was taken for granted as a sacred scripture for the Eritrean people to recite by those who wrote it, when I say this I am not discounting their expertise, effort and the document’s guiding principles of democracy, however, you don’t shove it down the people’s throat this hastily prepared document by few hand picked scholars who presented it to the El Capitan for scrutiny and he in turn tossed it into the fireplace. It is a complete irony to brainstorm on a document and put on the desk of a known butcher to bless it as ‘constitution’, what where they thinking?! don’t tell me they were thinking he was ‘the undisputed champion of the world’, that said, can we go back and focus on kicking him and his pot bellied pickle heads in the rear out of adi halo and rewrite a new and improved constitution which embraces all the people including the Rashaidas in the Suakin, the Beni Amr in Adi Ibrahim and the Afari in Irafale…not only Kiflezghi, Zerezghi, Tuumzghi and Naizghi…. lets get back to our authentic Eritrean senses.
Well said. As you have put it in a funny and cleverly way I surly agree; agree with totality of your points but then we – I think that also includes me – are guilty on not speaking out at the leading edge of it all. I think I did speak a balancing and a fair review on my side ever since these folks came in but I was not up to the task. I had some few restraints. The most amusing and still lingering with many Eritreans is (“they do not want Eritrea to be prosperous”) which I am trying to figure out who are these “They”. Besides that, I never stopped voicing my views and alerting Dr Bereket at every corner or hangouts Dr Bereket was/is seen explaining the process. Many credit to Dr Bereket as the same time. It is time invested and sweated. By the way, where are the others who were part in this draft – do they ever speak out or they are all muted? It is Just an after thought.
